fun green stocking stuffers

I was perusing Babies R Us the other day looking for some fun stocking stuffers forBubbie and Sass. I was surprised to see our favorite Sassy toys taking on a natural spin. While they still have some plastic on them, I thought their new natural brights line was really cute. They have lots of fun rattles and even a small baby doll. I will definitely be picking some of these up for Sass's stocking!


Then I was on the hunt for Bubbie. Bubbie is my sugar boy. He loves lollis and treats. I was happily surprised to find some yummy organic lollis for him at the check out aisle while at BRU. The whole bag was only a $1.99 too! I bought a bag to keep in my diaper bag (always need good "incentives" on hand!), but I plan to get another bag for his stocking. They come in fun flavors too like razzmatazz berry and pomegranate pucker!

While in Trader Joes the other day, I was in need of a new toothbrush so I picked one up by Preserve. I love it so much I went looking to see if they made a kids toothbrush and they do. I found the Preserve Jr. at Wholefoods. Bubbie will be getting the Grizzly Bear Brush in his stocking. These toothbrushes are made from recycled Stonyfield Yogurt cups!

a green christmas

This is one of the things I am asking Santa for for Christmas:
One of my new years resolutions is to stop using so many plastic bags (and with all my Target trips that's a lot of bags!!). So I want to start using reusable bags, but a girls got to be fashionable right?! The cute bags are called Envirosacs and you can get them here. You get five different bags depending on what collection you choose and there are five different collections to choose from. They wrap up small into a little clutch bag to make them easy to throw in your console or purse or in my case, diaper bag.

Here are some facts about plastic bag usage that I got from here:

• Hundreds of thousands of sea turtles, whales and other marine mammals die every year from eating discarded plastic bags mistaken for food.
• Plastic bags don’t biodegrade, they photodegrade—breaking down into smaller and smaller toxic bits contaminating soil and waterways and entering the food web when animals accidentally ingest.
• Plastic bags are among the 12 items of debris most often found in coastal cleanups, according to the nonprofit Center for Marine Conservation.
• Each year, an estimated 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide. That comes out to over one million per minute. Billions end up as litter each year.
• According to the EPA, over 380 billion plastic bags, sacks and wraps are consumed in the U.S. each year.
• According to The Wall Street Journal, the U.S. goes through 100 billion plastic shopping bags annually. (Estimated cost to retailers is $4 billion)

Currently I recycle our plastic bags, those of you who live where there is a Publix, they have the containers right out front for you to recycle your bags in, but my goal is to now eliminate them as much as possible from our lives! starting fresh

With the new year approaching my goal for my family is to go a little greener. I am not by any means professing to be the "queen of green" but I am doing as much as I can and know. I am constantly online these days learning a little more about going green. So this blog will journal my journeys of going green with my kids. I will write about cloth diapers, organic foods, and tips around the house. Hopefully any one who reads this might just go a little greener too because of something I have posted. That's how this whole going green thing is suppose to work right, I learn from someone, you learn from me, someone else learns from you and before you know it all those little changes start adding up and our world will just be a little nicer for our kids! The way I see it is as a Christian this is my duty. The Lord gave me my body to treat as a temple, but He also gave us this beautiful earth and I want to glorify Him by treating it well.
