I'm so "flippin' excited to try out flip!

I'm 11 weeks into cloth diapering a newbie. With Sass I didn't start until 4 months so I didn't know much about cloth diapering a teeny tiny. Well 11 weeks in and my all time favorite diapers are our bumgenius AIO's. They are super simple, super absorbant and we haven't had a single breastfed poop explosion in them. My second favorites would be my gdiapers. I love the fit of the gdiapers and the concept, but I don't love the cotton g pants. Well actually I do love them but I don't love that they feel damp after wearing them for a while and I don't love that I have to snap in those silly liners and change them out after pretty much every poopy diaper. But other than that I do love them and I have purchased 4 more covers in the next size along with a bunch of g cloth.

All that to say, I'm now super excited to try out the flip system. It may be the best of both worlds. It's similar to a g diaper system as you use the same cover multiple times and just lay an insert (either disposable, stay dry or organic) inside. But it's made like a bG! one size with snaps, so hopefully being made of PUL won't feel damp after a while. And it's a one size so more economical than purchases multiple sizes of what ever system you do like. I have heard too that my gcloth will work in the flip system which is good since I have a dozen or so of them!

So now that bubba bear is growing like a weed, I have sold off all our xsmall diapers and used that money to invest in a one day pack of flips, plus an extra single flip in ribbit green (my all time fave!). I also ordered a pack of the disposable inserts to try out and compare against the gdiaper inserts. I do like this option for when we are out and about all day long and I don't want to haul dirty diapers around!

This is the perfect time to try out the Flip system ( or any other Bumgenius diapers) too because bumgenius is allowing a rare sale. And if you purchase from Kelly's Closet today you can get free shipping too on orders over $50 using the code FORFUN.

Click here to visit Kelly's Closet

I'll be back to update once I get them in and do a full comparison between Flip and gdiapers.

tiny fluff friday

So there hasn't been a whole lot of blogging going on these last two weeks. What has been going on is a lot of nursing, diaper changing, napping and just trying to get adjusted to having three kids now instead of two!

Our newest little man is two weeks old today! I can't believe two weeks have past already! It makes me want to cry.... which doesn't mean a whole lot these days because everything seems to make me want to cry. Lovely hormones!

We did break out our teeny tiny fluff this week and started giving it a try. Only a few things fit so far but here are a few pics because what could be cuter than a newborn in a cloth diaper!

Teeny Tiny Orange G Diaper (really liking these!)

XS Thirsties Fab Fitted w/ an XS Thirsties Cover

XS Bumgenius AIO (probably my favorite!)

Hopefully next week I will be back into the groove of blogging and give you some more frequent updates... .I do have some fun give aways in store, one to start next week!

some people can choose just one

I'm not one of them! I love trying all kinds of diapers. My favorites change on a regular basis. Since Sass only wears diapers to sleep now, there is a lot of new things to try since she was in full time cloth. Here are some of the diapers I am currently drooling over!

Smarti Pants

These are a brand new one size diapers. I have heard great things about them. They are the most affordable one size diaper I have seen around. The feature that sounds the coolest to me about these is that you don't have to unstuff them before throwing them in your diaper pail. Apparently the pocket is open at both ends and will release the insert in the wash! Pretty cool! Their special for $36.95 is only for 11 more days, so I may cave and order before then!

Kissaluv Marvel Fitteds

These new fitteds from Kissaluv are just too stinkin' cute! I don't really need them, but I want to try one! I feel like I can justify buying fitteds more when they are one size like this one because Sass can sleep in them now and the baby can wear them from birth to potty training! Kelly's Closet has free shipping right now too on orders over $29 when you use the code FACE68. Code expires on 7.19.09! Click here to visit Kelly's Closet

I just ordered a Thirsties Duo Wrap from Nell's Natural Baby. I ordered a meadow green one, so cute! I can't wait for it to come in! These covers are suppose to be as great as a regular Thirsties cover but even better because you can expand the size! I ordered a small and will be interested to see if Sass will squeeze into it at 23lbs. I'll let you know! If you want to order from Nell's click here:
Click here to visit Nell's Natural Baby.

Lastly, I want to get some gcloth to try in my gDiapers. I am hoping to order some of these before the baby is born. Unfortunately, the great coupon code that I have doesn't apply to these. It only applies to the everyday G's 6 pack, but is still a great deal. Use g1378swanson if you want to order those. As I get other good codes I will be sure to post them!

What are you wanting to try out? Is there something I haven't listed that I need to explore? Leave me a comment and fill me in on your faves!

cloth diapering on a budget

While cloth diapering can save you thousands over the long run versus the cost of disposables, the intial investment can be kind of steep. Depending on if you go the cheapest route of prefolds and covers or the more expensive route of pockets and AIO's or onesize diapers, you can easily layout several hundred dollars right up front, but then you are done! You're investment will have been made and if you can keep yourself from getting addicted to buying new diapers, you can save a lot of money.

Here are some of my money saving tips:

1. Sign up for newsletters, join Facebook groups and follow the brands you like on Twitter

You will get great coupon codes and discounts by doing these things. This is the way I essentially find out about all my sales that I post. You can get free shipping and great discounts by doing this. You also may luck out and get to be a tester for new products by doing these things!

2. Shop the seconds sales!

Seconds usually have minor defects that prevent them from being sold as first quality. The defects can vary from crooked stitching, the wrong color snaps and discontinued colors. This is a great way to stock up on good diapers cheap. My two favorite seconds shops are the Thirsties Outlet and the Swaddlebees outlet (which sells SB's and Blueberrys). Their e newsletters will usually tell you when they are stocking the outlet! I know CottonBabies tends to sell Bumgenius seconds, but I never seem to get there in time!

3. Buy used.

Okay, I know that at first this sounds gross. But this is really a great way to try out new brands with out making a huge investment. And put it this way, if you used a diaper service (which so many of our mamas did), I can guarantee you that they didn't return you (or your mama) the exact same diapers week by week. I just do some extra sterilization to these dipes when I get them. You do have to be careful that you know what you are getting. Ask lots of questions and look very carefully at pictures and the persons feedback, but you can save a ton of money this way! The two site I tend to sell/buy off of are The Cloth Diaper Swap board on Babycenter.com ( You have to request to become a member of this one) and Diaperswappers.com (really watch who you buy from on this one, I sell here more than buy). I also try to sell/swap with friends and have even thought about listing diapers here for my readers.

4. Resell Diapers

If you buy good cloth diapers you will be amazed at the resell value on them. As Sass has outgrown diapers or I have purchased ones I don't love I have resold them and used the money to then buy new diapers. If you take good care of your diapers you should be able to resell them for at least 50% of what you paid for them, if not more depending on the brand and popularity of the diaper.

5. Look for good deals on green blogs.

I find a lot of good deals on mommy blogs I read, so be on the lookout! I recently posted a great deal on g diapers where you can get 6 covers with snap in liners for $40. One cover normally sells for $18.99 so this is a huge steal! These are the kinds of things you need to watch for to stock up and save when the sales are good! (By the way, that deal is good until the end of the month, use code: g1378swanson at check out. Only good on the everyday g's 6 pack!)

Leave me a comment if you have any other great tips!
