one day i will blog again....

but not today as I am fighting mastitis and possibly thrush (which I am not convinced yet that I or baby have but lactation seems to think I do). My fever was up to 103.3 earlier today but is coming down and I am feeling better plus I've started some antibiotics. I have never had this like this before and am shocked at how bad I felt and how quickly it all came on. Let me know if you have any great healing tips!

The closest I've come is a clogged duct and that was terrible. I did a lot of heat compresses and massaging because it took the stinging away. Ibuprofen was nice because it helped take some of the pain away and lots of nursing helped. Hope this clears quickly. Not fun.

Hey, So sorry I do believe mastatis is the sickest I have ever been. I had it twice when I was nursing Nic. Hot as you can stand towels on your chest was the best thing but of course that was 28 years ago. So sorry you are sick.

Ug! Hope it passes quickly. Hot/wet compresses, pumping if you can stand it, and mother's milk tea helped me. (I had low milk supply, so the tea kind of helped things move along more quickly). Hopefully the antibiotics will work their magic and you'll feel better soon. Mastitis is awful!

I meant to say "extra pumping"...but when my son was around the age your is, he was eating 12 times each day and there's no way I could have pumped extra! It did help in later months though. Good luck!

I massaged my breast in the effected area while my son nursed. That was the only thing that worked for me. I tried compresses and they helped too.

Loads of water. Frequent naps. Extra vitamin C. Probiotics 3x a day. And for thrush you can apply Genetian Violet. www.kellymom.com or www.drjacknewman.com . . . those two sites helped me through 5 mastitis infections and 2 rounds of thrush. I'll be praying for you! Please get rest and good for you for letting the blog take a low priority!

If you have a heating pad, it can really really help with the pain. Showering, of course, and pushing with the palms of your hands towards the nipple...
I survived it, felt like having the flu... medication worked wonders. A good friend of mine did not, and stopped nursing. Either way, I pray for your speedy recovery!

Hey, have you heard about using cabbage?? When I was breastfeeding, out lactation specialist told me to use cabbage and it worked! Buy one head, roll out leaves on counter to break the veins, and place individual leaves in freezer. Lay one to two leaves on your affected breast - change leaves every 30 minutes or so for 24 hours. It sounds labor intensive but it worked for me!!

I hope you are all better now! I had a nasty case of mastitis this time around, and it really is amazing how quickly it hits and how much it can knock you out! I also got yeast (vaginal and nipple) from the antibiotics, but thank goodness it didn't seem to get far enough for the baby to get it colonized in his mouth. Diflucan and Nystatin cream helped a lot!

If you and or the baby have thrush start takin probiotics. Give them to your baby too. This is esp important if you have to go on antibiotics for the mastitis. I never had mastitis but I had clogged ducts which killed! Nurse, nurse, nurse and I know it seems tough but try to relax as much as possible. Your mental state has a lot to do with it. I tried everything, but it was not until I laid down in bed with my son to nurse and just completley relaxed until my duct cleared. Hang in there!
